Last season World MasterCard Fashion Week kicked off with a short day. Featuring only three designers new collections on the runway, it was a nice ease into what the week had to behold. Although it wasn’t a lengthy day, it was short and sweet. Showcasing some of our favourite picks from the week, day one definitely kicked off another jaw-dropping fashion week in Toronto.
Opening World MasterCard Fashion Week, like many prior years, was Holt Renfrew. We unfortunately missed getting photos for this show. But needless to say, it was a great show with a variety of great Canadian designers showcased.
Following the Holt Renfrew show was the highly anticipated collection by Pink Tartan. The womenswear collection, designed by Kimberley Newport-Mimran, included many staples for the business women’s closet. The smart, sophisticated collection mixed the modern classic women with style derived from the 1960’s. The mix of black, gold and white in the clothing especially caught our eye. There were many pieces in this collection we fell in love with that we could see lasting for several seasons. We especially loved the knee length A-line skirts, and the last high-low A-line skirt that came on the runway. We can’t wait to see what Pink Tartan will showcase this season for fall/winter 2013.
Last but definitely not least, was one of our favorites from the week, Pavoni designed by Montreal duo Mike Derderian and Gianni Falcone. With a whimsical collection having girls swooning over being a princess, the collection was one of the most eye-catching of the week. With jewels and sequins strategically placed, the dresses were impeccable. From huge ball gowns in beautiful shades of gold and champagne, to tiny little cocktail dresses that sparkled; it all seemed to be from a dream. It was a beautiful collection, and the designers showed us a passion to create the perfect dress in so many inspiring ways. It was the perfect show to close the evening, keeping us dreaming about what tomorrow may hold.
