Last week, on Wednesday March 16th during Toronto Fashion Week, Vans celebrated their 50th anniversary. The House of Vans legacy was truly brought to life in Toronto, along with 10 other cities internationally. Stores, parties, contests and more all popped up around the city to celebrate the House of Vans on an amazing 50 years of success in the footwear industry.
As a long-time lover of the brand, I decided to incorporate it into my look for the day. Thankfully, which is usually not something one would be thankful for, my shoes were bothering me so I stopped at Get Outside, on Queen and Spadina, and picked up a new pair of Vans. Visit Get Outside or Getoutsideshoes.com and purchase a pair of Vans to get a ballot entered to win free Vans for a year.
Usually, for me fashion week means heels, dresses and everything pretty. But this season I took it down a notch because I was covering it in a different way which meant I was on my feet a lot more. As I usually am in heels at TFW I decided to have a little fun in between shows with fellow photographers in the runway room with some action shots. I hope you enjoy my silliness below, in my new all black Vans Sk8 Hi slims. *Runway photos shot by Ron Louie*
After the runway shows on Wednesday, myself and a friend went down to the DuPont and Ossignton area to celebrate the classic brand with some music, art, street culture and food. Performances by Tommy Genesis, Dinosaur Jr. and Jazz Cartier had the venue pumpin’. There also was a Vans photo booth, drinks (non-alcoholic) and a few free goodies scattered around the place. The vibe could have been a little more hype, but I think that may have been lack of alcohol, but the music was great. Most especially Jazz Cartier, a Toronto rapper, who killed it (in our opinion of course). Let’s just say both of us left the anniversary party and downloaded all his music. Take a look at some of the party pictures below:
Besides all the fun we had that day, lets take a moment to look at some of the shoes vans has in stores. Most especially, I must admit I NEED the burger and cupcake shoes in my large collection, they are both must-haves for myself. What shoes from their spring collection do you just need? Connect with us on Facebook or Twitter, we would love to hear your thoughts on Vans turning the big 50!
Happy 50th Anniversary again to the House of Vans!!!
